Using Switches with Inclusive Technology Software

To use switches with computers or tablets, you’ll need a switch interface. The switch interface determines what command the switch press will emulate (e.g. a left-mouse click, the space bar or a specific number).

All Inclusive Technology software titles use the following settings for switch access:

  • One switch scanning: Space
  • Two switch scanning: Space and Enter

The Inclusive Simple Switch Box is designed to emulate only the Space bar and Enter key - making it truly plug and play. Connect your Simple Switch box to any available USB port, plug in your switches, and away you go.

If you're using one switch, plug it into the Space port. If you're using two switches, plug your first switch into the Space port (this will do the scanning) and the second switch into the Enter port (this will make the selection).

If you have a switch interface capable of emulating more than Space and Enter (such as the Crick USB Switchbox or the Ultimate Switchbox) you'll need to configure the interface to ensure the it is set to Space and Enter.

Please refer to the instructions supplied with your switch interface when setting up your switches.

Testing your switches:

The easiest way to test your switches are correctly set up for use with our software is to open Notepad (the basic text editor included with Windows). Once in Notepad, you should see the cursor flashing in the top left-hand corner of the page.

  • If you press your 'Space' switch, you should see the cursor moving along the page (as if you were pressing the Space bar).
  • If you press your 'Enter' switch, the cursor should move down the page (as if you were pressing the enter key).
