1. Overview

AACtivity is an easy-to-use communication and music device with eight large buttons. You can record your own messages, play built‑in sounds, or enjoy music activities using direct touch or switches. It is designed for learners who benefit from clear cause‑and‑effect, scanning access, and engaging sound feedback.

It combines a simple communicator and a musical instrument in one robust unit and has:

  • 8 large, easy‑press buttons
  • 8 Levels for recordings or sound sets
  • Built‑in speaker
  • Support for wired and wireless switches
  • Several music‑based activities for motivation and fun

2. Who's it for?

AACtivity is suitable for:
  • Learners who are beginning to use AAC
  • Switch users who need scanning access
  • Group activities in classrooms or therapy sessions
  • Learners motivated by music and sound feedback
It can be used by children or adults, with direct button access or switches.


3. What's in the box?

Check the box contains:
  • AACtivity unit
  • Universal power supply (with country‑specific plug heads)
  • Toy / appliance cable
  • Printed instructions

5. Setting up

Power the device
  1. Fit the correct plug head to the power supply.
  2. Plug the power supply into the wall.
  3. Connect it to the power socket on the back of AACtivity.
  4. Turn the volume dial to switch the unit on.
AACtivity will announce when it is ready.

6. Choosing an activity

AACtivity has five activities:
  1. Record & Playback
  2. Pre‑Recorded Sounds
  3. Freestyle Music (piano)
  4. Music Scanning
  5. Music Playback
To change activity:
  1. Press the Activity button.
  2. Watch the LEDs to see which activity is selected.
  3. After a few seconds, AACtivity announces the activity.

    7. Using Record & Playback

    This mode lets you record your own messages.


    Selecting a Level
    • Press the Level button.
    • An LED shows the current Level (1–8).
    • Each Level has its own set of recordings.
    Recording a message
    1. Press and hold Record until all LEDs light.
    2. Press and hold the button you want to record onto.
    3. Wait for the beep.
    4. Speak clearly about 15 cm (6 inches) from the microphone.
    5. Keep holding the button until you finish speaking.
    Tip: Hold the button briefly after speaking so the message is not cut off.

    Playing messages

    • Press any button to hear its message.
    • Press Activity briefly to stop playback early.

    8. Deleting recordings

    • You can only delete messages while in Record mode.
    Delete one Level:
    • Press Pair / Erase briefly.
    Delete all Levels:
    • Press and hold Pair / Erase.
    • AACtivity asks you to confirm.
    • Only confirm if you are sure.

    9. Pre‑Recorded Sounds

    AACtivity includes 64 built‑in sounds, grouped into 8 themes:
    • Animals
    • Transport
    • Musical instruments
    • Loud sounds
    • Indoor sounds
    • Outdoor sounds
    • Emotions
    • Miscellaneous
    Use the Level button to choose a theme.
    Important:
    • These sounds cannot be changed or deleted.
    • Record and Erase buttons do nothing in this mode.

    10. Music activities
    Freestyle Music
    • The buttons act like a simple piano.
    • Notes run from middle C to high C.
    • No sharps or flats.
    Music Scanning
    • Follow the scanning LEDs to play a full song.
    • When the song is completed, AACtivity plays it back as a reward.
    • Toy output activates during the reward.
    Note: Switch scanning is not available in this mode.
    Music Playback
    • Press a button to hear a full song play automatically.

    11. Switch scanning

    AACtivity supports:
    • Single‑switch auto scanning
    • Single‑switch dwell scanning
    • Two‑switch step scanning
    You can use:
    • Wired switches
    • SimplyWorks wireless switches

    Dwell time

    Dwell time controls how fast scanning moves.

    • Adjustable from 1 to 4 seconds
    • LED shows the current setting
    • The setting is remembered after power off

    12. Toy / appliance output

    • The toy output can be used as a reward.
    • In Record & Playback, you can choose which messages activate it.
    • It is always active during Music Scanning rewards.
    • It does not work in other activities.

    14. Troubleshooting

    IssueSolution
    No sound output when pressing a button• Ensure power supply is plugged into a wall socket and into the power socket.
    • Make sure unit is turned on by rotating volume control.
    • If in Record and Playback activity, make sure there are some messages recorded.
    Wrong sound effects play in Pre-Recorded sounds activity. • Select correct category using Level button according to the provided list.
    • Make sure you have the correct content pack – it may have been changed to a country specific or age specific pack.
    Wrong song plays in Music Scanning or Music Playback activities. • Select correct song using Level button according to the provided list in Music Scanning or press the correct button in Music Playback.
    • Make sure you have the correct content pack – it may have been changed to a country specific or age specific pack.
    The toy output doesn’t do anything.
    • In Record and Playback activity, you will need to assign a particular message to have a toy output when recording. Please refer to the section
    entitled Toy Output.
    • The toy output has no effect in Pre-Recorded Sounds, Freestyle Music and Music Playback activities.
