1. Overview

Ultra Joystick is a small, robust USB joystick designed for people who control the cursor using their chin, head, or another body part. It can be mounted in many positions and fully customised to suit individual access needs. It works with Windows, Mac, Chromebooks and some tablets.

Two switch sockets can be programmed for click, drag, and speed control, or you can use Dwell Click for completely switch-free use.

It offers:

  • Customisable joystick orientation
  • Two programmable switch ports
  • Optional Dwell Click (use without switches)
  • Four cursor speed settings
  • Audible feedback (can be switched off)
  • Non-volatile memory (settings saved even when unplugged)

2. Who it’s for

  • Learners who use head, chin or hand movements to control a pointer
  • Users who need precise mounting at a specific angle or position
  • People who benefit from switch-based clicking or dwell clicking
  • Classrooms and therapy rooms needing a durable, mount-friendly joystick

Used to set:

  • Joystick orientation

  • Functions of the two switch sockets

Learn Mode 2

Tip: Even if you don’t plan to use switches, you must plug switches temporarily into sockets [1] and [2] to enter Learn Modes.

6. Using the product

Basic movement

Move the joystick gently in any direction to move the cursor.

The cursor speed is set separately (see below).

Switch-based clicking

If switches are connected, you can assign them to:

  • Left click
  • Right click
  • Drag-lock
  • Double click
  • Cursor speed control

Dwell Click (no switch required)

If Dwell Click is enabled, the joystick will click automatically after the cursor stops moving for the chosen delay. Ideal for users who find switches difficult.

Drag-Lock

A single press latches the left button on.

A beep sounds (if enabled).

Press any switch again to release.

7. Adjustments & options

Cursor speed

Press the Feature button briefly to cycle speeds:

  • 1 beep = slowest
  • 4 beeps = fastest
You can also assign cursor speed to a switch socket.

Audible feedback

Can be turned on/off in Learn Mode 1.

(The buzzer still operates during Learn Modes even if disabled.)

Orientation

Crucial when mounting for chin/head control — set “up” to match how the joystick will be positioned.

8. Mounting the Ultra Joystick

The Ultra Joystick requires the REHAdapt Mini Joystick Mounting Plate, which is compatible with the REHAdapt Mounting Arms.
All the arms listed above include a Super Clamp.
