1. Overview

Skyle X for iPad is an eye‑tracking system that lets you control an iPad Pro using eye movement instead of touch. It works alongside Apple’s built‑in accessibility features, allowing hands‑free control for communication, learning, and everyday iPad use. When connected, it moves the on‑screen pointer based on where you look. Selections are usually made using dwell (looking at something for a short time).

This product was discontinued from our range in 2024.

2. What's in the box?

  • Skyle eye tracker incorporated in an iPad case
  • USB PD hub
  • USB‑C to USB‑A cable
  • Housing screws and Torx key
  • VESA mounting screws

3. Before you start

  • You need a compatible iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd–5th generation)
  • Make sure iPadOS accessibility updates are installed
  • Ensure good, even lighting on the user’s face
  • Clean the front of the eye tracker before use

4. Setting up Skyle (hardware)

1. Fit the iPad into the case
  1. Carefully unclip the front of the Skyle case.
  2. Place the iPad into the back section.
  3. Connect the internal USB‑C cable to the iPad.
  4. Re‑fit the front panel until it clicks into place.
  5. Secure the case using the supplied screws.

2. Connect power and cables

You can connect Skyle in two ways:

Direct connection
  • Use the cable coming from the case to connect directly to the iPad.
  • This also allows charging or accessories without removing the case.
Using the supplied hub
  • Connect the case cable to the marked USB‑C port on the hub.
  • Connect the USB‑A to USB‑C cable from the hub to Skyle.
  • Use the second USB‑C port on the hub for charging.
  • Attach the hub to the case using the supplied Velcro.

5. Installing the Skyle X app

  1. Open Safari on the iPad.
  2. Go to the Skyle X download page (as described in the manual).
  3. Install the Skyle X app.
The app is required for positioning, calibration, profiles, and updates.

6. iPadOS accessibility setup

Important: These menus only appear when Skyle is connected.

In Settings → Accessibility:
  • Enable AssistiveTouch
  • Open Pointer Control and adjust pointer size if needed
  • Enable Dwell Control if you want selection by looking
  • Adjust dwell time and movement tolerance to suit the user

7. Positioning the user

Correct positioning is essential.
  • The user should face the screen directly
  • Eyes should be centred in the video view
  • Recommended distance is around 60 cm
  • Both pupils and the two reflection points (“glints”) should be clearly visible
Use the live camera view in the Skyle X app to check this.

8. Calibration

Each user must be calibrated.
  1. Open the Skyle X app.
  2. Choose how many calibration points to use.
    • More points = slower but more accurate
  3. Hold a steady position until calibration starts automatically.
  4. Look at the centre of each dot as it appears.
When finished, check whether the pointer accuracy feels good. Repeat if needed.
If no eyes are detected, calibration stops after a timeout and keeps the previous profile.

9. Profiles

Profiles store:
  • Calibration data
  • Sensitivity and filtering settings
This is helpful if multiple people use the same device.

10. Gaze selection and dwell

You can adjust:
  • Whether dwell selection is active
  • How long you need to look before a click happens
  • Scroll speed when using dwell scrolling
These settings affect how easy or tiring the system feels.

11. Updates and resets

  • Firmware updates appear inside the Skyle X app
  • A red dot indicates an available update
  • After updating, Skyle restarts automatically
Advanced settings include:
  • Soft reboot
  • Hard reboot
  • Factory reset
Only use resets if advised by support.

12. Mounting and positioning notes

  • Skyle supports VESA 75 mounting
  • Ensure the eye tracker stays visible to the user’s eyes
  • Avoid wobble or vibration
  • Keep cables tidy and strain‑free
