1. Overview
The it-Switches (also known as the SimplyWorks Switches) are wireless activation switches designed for learners who find keyboards, mice, or touchscreens difficult to use.
They work by pairing with an it-Receive (also known as the SimplyWorks receiver), which then sends switch actions to a computer, tablet, toy, or mains controller.
Both sizes:
- Support switch, mouse, and keyboard functions
- Use the same pairing and mode system
- Work with USB receivers (computer access) and stand‑alone receivers
Both switches are low‑profile, wireless switches used with the SimplyWorks system for computer access, toys, games, and environmental control. The main difference is size and battery type.
2. Who is it for?
- Learners using single‑ or multi‑switch access
- Classroom and therapy environments
- Users accessing software like Clicker or switch‑accessible apps
- Anyone needing a robust, wireless switch with a very light press
3. Switch sizes - what's the difference?
| Feature | it-Switch Small | it-Switch Large |
| Operating area | 75 mm | 125 mm |
| Height | Very low profile (10-22 mm) | Very low profile (10-22 mm) |
| Operating force* | Between 50–115 g | Between 50–115 g |
| Battery | 1 × CR2032 coin cell | 2 × AAA |
*Operating forces differs depending on whereabout the user touches the switch.
Both switches behave exactly the same in software.
4. What's in the box?
- it-Switch Small
- CR2032 battery
- Manufacturer instructions
- it-Switch Large
- 2 x AAA batteries
- Manufacturer instructions
5. Before you start
- An it-Receive (or it-Click-On Plus if controlling mains devices)
- Batteries fitted correctly
- Switch and receiver within 1 metre for first pairing
6. Fitting or changing batteries
- Remove the three screws on the underside.
- Lift off the base cover.
- Insert one CR2032 battery, with the + facing up.
- Replace the cover and screws.
- The middle LED segment flashes briefly during use.
- Undo the screw on the battery flap underneath.
- Insert two AAA batteries, following the + / – markings.
- Replace the flap and tighten the screw.
7. Pairing the switch (first‑time setup)
- Place the switch close to the receiver.
- Press the Pair button on the receiver – the LED flashes slowly.
- Within 10 seconds, press the Pair button on the switch.
- The receiver LED flashes, then stays on for 5 seconds.
- Pairing is complete.
Pairing with an it-Click-On Plus (mains controller)
Follow the same steps as above, but:
- Make sure you press the correct channel Pair button on the it-Click-On Plus
- Pairing information is stored in the switch, even if batteries are changed.
- The switch does not need programming
- The Mode setting does not matter
- It will simply work” as a switch input
This is ideal for:
- Toys
- Simple cause‑and‑effect activities
- Environmental control
9. Using the it-Switch with an it-Receive (computer access)
Understanding Modes
- Modes are selected using the Mode button on the underside
- The LED display shows the current mode (number or letter)
- Default mode is 7 (Space)
- Press the Mode button once to check the current mode
- Press repeatedly (or hold) to scroll through modes
- After 4 seconds, the LEDs turn off and the switch starts sending data
Switch functions:

To fully power off for transport:
- Press and hold the Pair button
- Wait until all LED segments light up
- Release the button – the switch is now off
- Press the Pair or Mode button once
11. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to try |
| Not working at all | Not paired | Repeat pairing steps |
| Not working at all | Batteries flat | Replace batteries |
| Works intermittently | Low battery | Replace batteries |
| Works intermittently | Switch too far away from receiver | Move switch closer to receiver |
