1. Overview

APPlicator Max is a wireless Bluetooth switch interface that lets you control one, two, or up to four devices using switches.

It is designed for people who need different switch actions for different apps or devices, without unplugging or re-programming.

You can use it with iPads, iPhones, AAC devices, Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks and more.

It connects to your devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and sends keyboard, mouse, or media commands when a switch is pressed.

It supports:
  • Up to 4 switches for actions
  • An optional 5th switch to change device or level
  • Multiple Devices or Levels, depending on how you set it up
Once configured, it lets you move smoothly between devices or apps using the same switches.

2. Who's it for?

APPlicator Max is suitable for:
  • Learners who use one or more switches
  • People using AAC, switch access, or eye-gaze
  • Classrooms with shared or multi-device setups
  • Therapists supporting progressive access needs
  • Anyone who needs different switch actions in different apps
If you only need one device and one set of switch actions, a standard APPlicator may be more suitable.

3. What's in the box?

  • APPlicator Max unit
  • USB charging cable
  • Manufacturer instructions

    4. Charging the battery

    1. Plug the USB cable into the charging port on APPlicator Max
    2. Plug the other end into any USB socket
    3. The charging LED shows green while charging
    4. When fully charged, the light turns off

    You can:
    • Charge while the unit is switched off
    • Leave it plugged in safely
    • Use the unit while charging
Low battery: the charging LED flashes red.

    5. Use cases

APPlicator Max works in one of three use-cases. You must choose this before pairing devices.

    1. Four-Device use-case (4d)
    • Connect up to 4 separate devices
    • Each device has one set of switch actions
    • Best if you move between multiple devices
    2. Two-Device use-case (2d)
    • Connect 2 devices
    • Each device has 2 Levels (2 sets of switch actions)
    • Useful if each device runs two different apps
    3. Single-Device use-case (1d)
    • Connect 1 device
    • Use up to 4 Levels for different apps or activities
    • Useful for complex access on one device

    6. Setting the use case

    • Turn on APPlicator Max
    • Press and hold the Up button until the display lights up
    • The display shows 4d, 2d, or 1d
    • Press Up briefly to change the option
    • Wait – the display turns off and the setting is saved
The unit remembers this setting even when powered off.

    7. Pairing your devices (Bluetooth)

    General rules
    • Devices connect to numbered slots
    • A slot can only be paired to one device
    • Solid LED = already paired
    • Slow flashing LED = available
    • Fast flashing LED = pairing mode

    Pairing steps

    1. Select the device slot using the Device button
    2. Open Bluetooth settings on your device
    3. Select APPlicator Max from the list
      • The name includes the slot number (e.g. #1)
    4. Wait a few seconds for it to connect

    Tip for PCs:

If APPlicator Max does not appear, press and hold the Device button to force pairing mode.

    8. Using QuickMedia™ mode

QuickMedia gives temporary media controls without changing your normal switch setup.

    What it does
    When QuickMedia™ is on:
    • Socket 1 = Play / Pause
    • Socket 2 = Skip Forward
    • Socket 3 = Skip Back
    • Socket 4 = QuickMedia on/off
    Turning QuickMedia on or off
    • Press and hold the QuickMedia button
The QuickMedia LED lights while active.
    QuickMedia is saved per device/level.

    9. Full list of supported switch functions

    10. Switching between devices or levels

You can switch in two ways:

    Option 1: Dedicated switch
    • Plug a switch into the Next Device / Level socket
    • A short press moves to the next device or level
Option 2: Long press on another switch
    • One of the four action switches can be set to:
      • Change device or level on a long press
    • Only one switch can do this
    Audible beeps confirm the change:
    • Higher tone = returned to Device 1 or Level 1

    11. Button Lock (prevent accidental changes)

    To stop settings being changed:
    • Press and hold Up + Down together
    • Display shows L (locked)
    To unlock:
    • Press and hold Up + Down again
    • Display shows U
You can still view settings while locked.

    12. On-screen keyboard on iPad / iPhone

Because APPlicator Max behaves like a keyboard, iOS hides the on-screen keyboard. To show or hide it:
    • Briefly press the QuickMedia button

The keyboard only appears when a text field is selected.

    13. Single-Shot mode
Single-Shot mode sends one action only, even if the switch is held. It's helpful if:
    • The user finds it hard to release a switch
    • You want to avoid repeated skips or clicks

Single-Shot can be set per switch, per device/level.

          14. Automatic sleep & power off

          Automatic sleep
          • Goes to sleep after 30 minutes of no use
          • Press any switch or button to wake it
          • Reconnects automatically in a few seconds
          Manual power off
          • Press and hold the Power button
          • Display shows Pd
          • Switches will not wake the unit
          Press Power again to restart.

          15. Forgetting all paired devices

Use this if you are re-setting or changing equipment.
          1. Press and hold QuickMedia + Device together
          2. All device LEDs flash
          3. Slot 1 flashes slowly, ready for new pairing
You must also remove APPlicator Max from Bluetooth settings on your devices.
