1. Overview

iSwitch50 is a 50mm Bluetooth switch designed to give simple, reliable access to switch-adapted apps, iOS Switch Control, Android Switch Access, media controls and camera functions. It is wireless, rechargeable and easy to set up, while still offering a wide choice of switch actions using its built-in Mode button and display.

It pairs directly with iPads, Android devices and other Bluetooth hosts, making it a flexible option for classrooms, therapy rooms and home use. The switch includes automatic power saving modes, manual sleep for transport, and supports four different switch colours using the supplied decals.

Once paired, it can act as:

  • A keyboard key
  • A media control (play/pause, skip, volume)
  • A camera shutter
  • A mouse click (iOS requires AssistiveTouch)
  • A Switch Control action on iPad

Its built-in battery charges via USB-C and includes automatic Snooze and a Manual Sleep mode.

iSwitch50 is suitable for:

  • Learners who use single or multiple switches
  • Teachers and therapists setting up scanning or cause-and-effect activities
  • Parents and carers supporting access at home
  • Users who benefit from media-based engagement (music, YouTube, photos)

2. iSwitch50 vs iSwitch

There are three differences between the iSwitch50 and the iSwitch

  1. iSwitch50 has a smaller footprint
  2. iSwitch50 has a USB-C charging port
  3. iSwitch50 does not include ports for external switches
The iSwitch has 2 ports for external switches, allowing you to use three switches - each with a different function.

3. What's in the box?

  • iSwitch50 unit
  • Decal set (red, yellow, green, blue)
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Instructions for use

4. Before you start

Choose your switch colour

  • Apply the chosen self-adhesive decal to the top surface. Align one edge first, then smooth gently with a soft cloth.

Charge the switch fully

  • Plug the USB-C cable into the socket on the unit.
  • The charging LED lights green while charging and turns off when complete.
  • A full charge normally takes about an hour.

Optional: Prepare your Bluetooth device

  • Update iPadOS / Android if possible.
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled and visible.

5. Setting up (step-by-step)

Wake the switch

iSwitch50 is shipped in Sleep Mode.

Press the Mode button once to wake it.

Pair over Bluetooth

  1. On your iPad/Android device, open Settings → Bluetooth.
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. After a few seconds the switch appears as: iSwitch50-V162.0-XXXX
  4. Tap to connect. Pairing typically takes around 5 seconds.

Once connected, the switch is ready to use.

Choose what the switch does (Mode Settings)

Press the Mode button briefly to show the current function on the display.

Press repeatedly to cycle through all available functions. These include:

  • Keyboard keys (e.g. Space, Enter, arrows)
  • Media controls (Play/Pause, Skip, Volume, Mute)
  • Camera shutter
  • Switch Control actions (including Home & Enter/Home)
  • Mouse clicks (requires AssistiveTouch on iPads)

If you don’t touch anything, the display turns off to save battery and the function is stored automatically.

6. Using the product

Common setups:

Single-switch scanning

  • Set the switch to Select Item in Switch Control.
  • Turn on Auto-Scanning in iOS.

Two-switch scanning

  • One switch = Move to next item
  • One switch = Select item

(Use two iSwitch50 units or one iSwitch 50 plus another Bluetooth switch.)

Camera engagement

Use Volume Up/Down to trigger the photo or video shutter—useful for early switch learners.

Using for music or media

Set Mode to:

  • Play/Pause
  • Skip Forward
  • Skip Back
  • Timed Play 10s / 30s (reward-based activity)

Important: For Timed Play, make sure the device is paused first. Otherwise, the switch will pause for 10 or 30 seconds instead of playing.

Using the on-screen keyboard (iPads)

Because iSwitch50 appears as a physical keyboard, the on-screen keyboard disappears automatically.

To show it:

  1. Make sure the iSwitch display is off.
  2. Press and hold the Mode button for ~2 seconds until the bottom display segment lights.
  3. Release - the on-screen keyboard appears. Repeat to hide it.

Mode D allows the main switch to trigger this behaviour, but this is mainly useful when several Bluetooth switches are paired.

7. Mode settings

8. Typical & use cases

  • Motivating early switch users with music (Play/Pause)
  • Taking photos with a single switch
  • Full Switch Control access for iPad
  • Single-switch cause-and-effect activities
  • Simple Bluetooth switch gaming (where supported)

9. Adjustments & options

Snooze Mode (automatic)

  • Activates if unused for 1 hour.
  • Switch disconnects temporarily but wakes instantly when you press the switch or Mode button.

Manual Sleep Mode (for transport)

Use this when travelling so bumps don’t accidentally wake the switch.

To activate:

  • Press and hold the Mode button for approximately 4 seconds until all display segments light, then release.

To wake:

  • Press Mode briefly (the main switch will not wake the device).

10. Mounting the iSwitch50

The iSwitch50 requires the REHAdapt Mini Joystick Mounting Plate, which is compatible with the REHAdapt Mounting Arms.

All the arms listed above include a Super Clamp.
